Multifunction chips for mobile phones
The Sandbridge Technologies company claims to have invented a type of multifunction chip, in which any communication protocol for mobile phones can be implemented: 3G, GPS, WiFi, multimedia services and others, by adding small extensions to the chip at very low cost ( 5 dollars that would translate into 30 dollars more on the final price of the mobile).
Right now, phone manufacturers are developing phones with a single chip that concentrates all the functionalities that they want to offer, being the different model for each type of phone. If you start from the same chip model, the cost savings would be remarkable.
In addition, the incorporation of this type of chip in mobile phones would allow us to have very powerful terminals, with WiFi and GPS capabilities, technologies that are not widespread in the world of mobile phones but, without a doubt, very interesting.
