Motorola and Intel WiMax phones

Motorola and Intel have decided to work together on the development of the next 802.16 standard, also known as WiMax, with the aim of moving forward firmly in the specification of the format and in unifying criteria. Specifically, work is now being done on the 802.16e format, an evolution of the 802.16d and that will not be compatible with it.

Both companies are also working with the Sprint company and testing in the labs using WiMax technology on mobile. Motorola hopes that the fruit of this work will be the next WiMax mobiles that the company expects to launch in 2007 and that it considers "a fundamental piece in the company's strategy.

Hopefully this is the case and that soon we will have here this new communication standard, much more advanced than the current 802.11x.
