Nokia proposes to touch and press their screens
Surely thinking about its implementation in future teams with Maemo, Nokia is working on multi-touch screens in which finger pressure is also an element differentiator.
The Nokia patent that has been known these days shows us a multi-touch interface in which a new dimension would be added, the intensity of the pressure we exert on the touch screen. That would be possible with the combination of a resistive type screen and pressure sensors in it.
The technical base is already in place, but the complicated part is going to be putting it into practice. We are still getting used to moving our fingers properly on a multi-touch screen, and controlling the pressure of those movements will not be easy to integrate in the way we communicate with a phone, for example, especially if we want the functionality be wide and don't just open context menus.
