Palm will use Windows Mobile in the next Treo

At a joint press conference, Palm and Microsoft confirmed what was already almost certain: that Palm will use the Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system on the next Treo model. This will allow these Smartphones include Outlook Mobile, Office Mobile and Internet Explorer.

Initially, the phone is designed for the American network (ie CDMA instead of GSM) and will be able to access Verizon Wireless' EV-DO service for high-speed Internet access.

Palm thus points to the trend of including Windows in the latest versions of phones, as other manufacturers have already done, although it does not offer much more information, apart from the fact that it will be equipped with an Intel chip and that it will be available at the beginning of the 2006.
