Nothing Android, as we had wished. Finally, the S8000 has been officially presented today with the name of Samsung Jet and with the Korean manufacturer's proprietary operating system and its TouchWiz interface. Thus inaugurating the multiple launches of Samsung.
Of course, its technical specifications surprise us and we like both the screen and the processor it integrates. The latter works at 800 MHz, which guarantees us very good performance in all its applications and functionalities. It is quite close to the 1 GHz of the Toshiba TG01.
The screen is more than respectable in size and resolution for a device that is not a smartphone. It is AMOLED type, with a size of 3.1 inches, resolution of 800 × 480 pixels and can display 16 million colors. Ideal to combine it with the rest of its multimedia features.
Among them the Samsung Jet offers support for video playback in DivX and XviD format, which is combined with DNSe support and MR Sound Effect, technologies that will improve the audio that we reproduce in the terminal, offering surround sound.
We will manage all this with the TouchWiz 2.0 interface, an evolution of this standard in Samsung mobiles, with which we will have widgets on three of the six faces of the cube, the element that will stand out the most in this interface, at least visually, due to its rotation in three dimensions.
TouchWiz 2.0 can also be controlled by gestures, using the phone's accelerometer to detect the movements we make with it and move through the menus. Finally, it adds an intelligent lock screen, from which we can directly access various applications.
Another aspect that we like about the Samsung Jet is its Dolfin browser, based on WebKit, the same engine that Android, iPhone or Safari browsers work with. This will make the browsing experience on the phone much more similar to that of the desktop. We will access this through its 3G connectivity or through Wi-Fi.
A 5 megapixel camera, MicroSD card reader, 3.5 mm headphone jack and a receiver Gps complete the characteristics of a terminal that, despite not being a smartphone, will be able to satisfy a good number of users who do not want to install new applications on their mobile.
