Sony Ericsson 'Rachael', the first SE with Android
For many months now, the new Sony Ericsson mobile with Android has been rumored, about which more and more data is known, although still unofficially.
The currently named Sony Ericsson Rachael, code name under which the device is developed, would be a high-end mobile belonging to the Xperia family, where for now we only find the X1 already available on the market. The SE Rachel will have a touch screen (multi-touch? Hopefully, although it seems that Android is not good at this interface), with an 8-megapixel camera and connectivity HSDPA at 7.2 Mbps, being clearly focused on an advanced and demanding audience.
An interesting feature with which Sony Ericsson wants to stand up to Apple is the implementation of a 1 Ghz processor. at the Rachael, opposite the underlocked ARM Cortex-A8 "only" 600 MHz. IPhone 3GS. A few years ago these frequencies of mobile phone processors were unimaginable.
There is still a lot of data to know, and it is not expected that the Sony Ericsson Rachael will hit the market until at least 2010. Much has to change the manufacturer if it wants to be very successful, and it must be recognized that the Xperia X1 does not it has finished convincing users (perhaps due to the wait we had to endure, perhaps due to a very reduced marketing campaign).
A Sony Ericsson with Android for an affordable price would be ideal, more or less around the cost of HTC Magic. Unfortunately it seems that it will not be so, and it would not be unreasonable to think of a SE Rachel with prices similar to those of the Xperia X1, with an associated contract and initial 300 or 400 euros.
