We will have 'Cyberpunk 2077' anime series on Netflix: 'Edgerunners'
During the presentation of the new trailer and playable details of the highly anticipated and recently delayed 'Cyberpunk 2077', CD Projekt Red has dropped a small gift for fans of the franchise, although it will not arrive in the short term. It will be a premiere anime series in 2022, titled 'Cyberpunk: Edgerunners', which will be developed by the Trigger studio, popular for small cult anime pieces, such as the 'Kill la Kill' series.
According to CD Projekt Red, the anime will be more than just a "recreation of the game", it will go a little further, and feature an independent story, and feature a whole new story and characters. The project coincides with the 10th anniversary of the studio's creation, and Trigger declares themselves fans of the original '80s cyberpunk style, so for them it's an opportunity to get back to the roots of their influences as creators. Trigger are also the creators of 'Little Witch Academia' and the recent 'Promare'. Its founder, Hiroyuki Imaishi, directed the also very famous 'Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann'.
The series will have ten episodes and will start from the story of a young man trying to survive in the series where the game, Night City, is also set. Imaishi will direct this new series, and another studio historical, Yoh Yoshinari, will be in charge of character designs. At the moment, yes, there is no advance payment other than the promotional image of the game and its spectacular logo.
